Which Ink for a Maiden Voyage?
Sadly, my dog passed away last night. So I’m trying to keep myself distracted with pens and ink, to avoid ruminating!
My “grail” pen, a Namiki Falcon that has been modified by John Mottishaw to have an extra fine nib and increased flexibility, was ordered a few weeks ago. I was recently notified that it’s on its way, and should get here this Tuesday. However, this brings up a dilemma: what ink should I put in it, for its first inking (with me–I assume John may have inked it to test it out after modifying it for me)?
Click here for an appalling list of the inks I currently possess (both full bottles and small samples). What do you think I should use?

I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. I hope your new pen is providing a nice distraction.
Of the inks you own, I’d recommend J. Herbin’s Encre Rouge and Poussière de Lune to start. I’m a big fan of both colors. They’re saturated with enough dye to look good, but still show lovely shading. I’ve got three Falcons (black, blue, and burgundy) which have been Binderized to extra fine, extra flex. All are great pens which I should ink more often.
My sympathies for your loss,
Kate
Thank you, Kate! So sorry to take so long to respond–school has called for long hours lately!
Thank you so much for your sympathies, and of course your ink suggestions! I think I might try Poussière de Lune soon, since I’m crazy about purples.
My sincere condolences on your dog’s passing. It is always a great loss when a friend goes.
Thank you, Joanne! I really appreciate your kind words.
